Underbelly is a show about survival, confrontation, anger, vulnerability, and potential reactions to fear and oppression.
Much of our current society is sensationalized in a narrative of us versus them. With the intention of harm to our livelihoods as well as the environments in which we thrive, it demands that we call into question the nature of survival. How do we survive in a system whose structure depends on the white, cis, hetero, neurotypical patriarchy to stay intact at the exclusion and destruction of the ‘other’?
Tropical will also be hosting an event called the Survival Tools Decoration Party, which asks members of the community to decorate and bedazzle objects of comfort, protection, and violence. These objects will be shown alongside original works by members of Tropical Contemporary.
